What does Archivist back up?

It exports the supported QuickBooks Online company records, the journal report, and available attachment files into a schema-version-1 archive.

Can I restore the backup into QuickBooks Online?

No. Archivist is an export-only utility. It does not restore, import, edit, or manage your QuickBooks Online books.

What can open the downloaded file?

The archive uses the same schema-version-1 format consumed by Stunning Books, so it can be read there without conversion. It is also a standard compressed tar archive.

How long is my backup stored?

The hosted copy is available for 24 hours by default, then it is deleted. Download it promptly and keep your own copy somewhere secure.

What happens when I disconnect?

Archivist removes the company, its backup history, and its stored backup files, and revokes future QuickBooks Online access. Files you already downloaded are unaffected.

Can a backup complete with warnings?

Yes. If an individual attachment cannot be downloaded, the archive may complete with a visible warning while retaining its available attachment metadata.
